Ascent at Penland

This past weekend I finished installing a new piece at Penland School of Crafts in their newly renovated Gallery and Visitors Center. The piece is titled and consists of seven juniper trees spiraling out from a central point within the garden courtyard. Vinyl mesh cones were fabricated in order to hold and embrace each growing tree, eventually suspending them above the ground. This material was graciously donated by Sailrite. Rather than seven separate entities, Ascent II is to be viewed as a transition in the life of one juniper tree; grounded, gradually uprooted and then existing in a higher spiritual realm. The piece will be on view through June 26th, 2016 with an opening reception on June 4th from 4:30-6:30pm. If you’re in the area, please check it out. To view images of the piece, click HERE.
